My top 10 restaurants
French cuisine is of course world famous, so inevitably restaurants and eating out has to be part of any visit. It's often a good idea to opt for the "menu du jour" as this is likely to be made from the best and freshest, seasonal produce available. The following are my favourites, some are inexpensive others less so. Remember lunchtime really is just that starting at 12 noon and many restaurants stop serving at 2pm.
Au Pont Vert - in Vannes and only open at lunchtimes, with a choice of two menus, it serves very traditional recipes with a modern reinterpretation.
La Pressoir - in Saint Ave near Vannes, michelin starred heaven
Le Petit Marche - beside the Mairie in Vannes this cute basement restaurant has great home cooking.
Chez Jacky - this waterfront restaurant owned by oyster farmers is the place to go for seafood. Near Lorient ovelooking the Belon river home to the belon oyster.
L'Auberge Grande Maison - in Mur de Bretagne this is a gastronomic delight for a special occasion
Le Bouchon Breton - at Séné near Vannes a great lunch place for tradional food at low prices.
Le Vivier - seafood restaurant on the Cote Sauvage at Quiberon, I had the best moules frites I have ever eaten in this restaurant.
Le Puits de Saveurs - don't let the location of this restaurant put you off. Its in a squat square bulding, next to a MacDo and in the car park of the Intermarché supermarket.... not tempting you? It really does serve good food.
Le Beau Rivage - a gastronomic reastaurant on the shores of the Lac du Guerledin at Caurel, in the summer you can eat outside on the lakeside.
Le Merlin - with a choice of menus including tapas this is also at Lac du Guerledin on the opposite side at Anse de Sourdan, the terrace has a lovely view over the lake.
I can give you directions to and make reservations for you at any restaurant, even if its not yet on my list of top 10 restaurants in Brittany.
